Reminder: join us October 21 to shape the KIT Funds toolkit for CBOs

A reminder about the October 21 session on the draft KIT Funds toolkit for community organizations, and how to help fund the work.

The newsletter

We are following up on our September 4 announcement. California's $500 million Kitchen Infrastructure and Training (KIT) Fund now includes hands-on food education in school gardens as an allowable use. School districts have a named funding source for garden-based education through their nutrition services departments, and that opens the door for community-based organizations (CBOs) to partner with them and deliver it.

To help community-based organizations (CBOs) make the most of it, we are drafting the KIT Funds: Hands-On Food Education Toolkit for CBOs (a toolkit for school districts will follow), and we want your input. Join us Wednesday, October 21, 3:00 to 4:00 PM PT on Zoom: register here.

What you get from attending:

  • A first look at the draft toolkit, including outreach templates for connecting with principals and nutrition services directors
  • The latest on the rollout, including what we know and what the California Department of Education (CDE) has yet to decide
  • Answers to your questions and a chance to help shape strategy and next steps
  • A hand in the final product: your feedback goes into the version we release in late November

If you cannot make it, register anyway to receive the recording.

Help fund this work

We are raising $80,000 for project management so we can finish the toolkits, communicate with the coalition, co-host training webinars with CDE, and support districts and CBOs through implementation. Thank you to our newest contributors, One Cool Earth and Life Lab. Three ways to help: ask a funder you already work with to take part, give to the coalition, or forward this invitation to CBOs in your network who should be in the room.
