The KIT Fund rollout
$500 million for fresh food in schools, including school gardens.
We're the California School Garden Coalition: 106 organizations working toward garden classrooms for every California student.
For the first time in state history, school food authorities (SFAs) can spend KIT funds on hands-on food education in school gardens. We're partnering with state agencies on the rollout.
An SFA is a school district, county office of education, or charter school that runs both federal school meal programs: the National School Lunch Program and the School Breakfast Program. Most are school districts.

How we work
Government Relations
We work with the Legislature and state agencies
We work with legislators and state agencies on sustainable funding for school garden education, including the California Department of Education (CDE) on the rollout of California's Kitchen Infrastructure and Training (KIT) Fund.
Impact
We gather the evidence
We conduct research, gather evidence and publish case studies on what school garden programs do, and identify best practices for installing, maintaining and teaching in them across California.
Network
We connect the organizations doing the work
We cultivate a network of organizations across the state that support school garden instruction, and a shared vision for it.
